Since 2000, the Yale Sappern Memorial Fund board, in collaboration with Donald Sappern and Pietrina Rizzo Sappern, has organized an annual charity event in honor of Yale Sappern. The Annual Yale Sappern Dinner takes place in the summer. All profits support the Fellowship.
21st Annual Yale Sappern Memorial Fund Dinner
The trustees of the Yale Sappern Memorial Fund, Inc. are honored to invite you to our Annual Dinner celebrating and supporting the Fund’s endowment of the family law internship program at Quinnipiac Law School. This year’s event will again be held at Anthony’s Ocean View in New Haven on Tuesday, June 9, 2020. Proceeds enable the Sappern Memorial Fund to continue the legacy Yale began in 1993, underwriting law student interns who work with their professors and family law clerks to assist victims of domestic violence. Yale’s vision was to utilize law students as a resource for victims of domestic abuse; help victims navigate the complexities of the Family Court system; and simultaneously train generations of knowledgeable, compassionate, experienced family law practitioners. Following Yale’s death in 1997, friends and colleagues established the Fund to continue the important work Yale had begun and memorialize his countless contributions to the Family Court system during his distinguished career. Since its inception, more than 450 law students have completed the internship and assisted tens of thousands of families in the New Haven, Fairfield, Hartford and New Britain Judicial Districts. The Fund currently sponsors 15 student interns in the Connecticut Court system who assist more than a thousand families annually.
