yale sappern fellowship program
The Sappern Fellowship Program offers law student hands-on experience in family law while providing assistance to individuals facing domestic violence and other urgent legal challenges.
about the program
In a small office in the New Haven County Courthouse, something extraordinary happens every day. Law students sit across from people facing some of the most challenging moments of their lives and help them navigate the complex legal system when they need it most.
The Sappern Fellowship Program connects Quinnipiac University School of Law students with individuals who need assistance filing critical legal documents, particularly restraining orders. For many of our clients, we represent hope when they have nowhere else to turn.
our mission
We believe that everyone deserves access to justice, regardless of their financial situation, education level, or family support system. The Sappern Fellowship Program ensures that vulnerable individuals—often victims of domestic violence—receive the guidance and support they need to protect themselves and their families.

- Connecting clients with additional resources like Legal Aid
- Providing emotional support during difficult legal proceedings
While Fellows cannot provide legal advice, they offer something equally valuable: patient guidance, compassionate support, and the assurance that no one has to face the legal system alone.
The Sappern Fellowship Program is made possible through the generous support of the Yale Sappern Memorial Fund and the dedication of Quinnipiac University School of Law students who believe in making justice accessible to all.
